the death of a 25-year-old man with a pregnant wife at home. police said he was with the construction crew digging footers in the griffith landing community in severn when something went wrong. some of the workers saw the man in trouble. technical rescue crews were called in and it took them about 3 1/2 hours to get man's body out. he was pronounced dead at the scene. maryland occupation safety and health are investigating. we brought you this story first on twitter. for the latest brake break, you can find us -- breaking news, you can find us on twitter. harford county sheriff's office officials said seth beckman stormed into several businesses, including a snow bam stand on saturday before he was confronted by a sheriff's deputy who ended up shooting him.

before it was all said and done. a trooper spotted baltimore county police following a jeep driven by the suspect on the beltway clocked at more than 100 miles an hour. the trooper followed the pursuit into d.c. and eventually back into doll montgomery -- montgomery county. >> at first, we thought this was the president. then we look over and see, oh, my gosh, there's a car without tires and there's a police chase. >> everybody in the restaurant ducks, ran inside while 40 cops drew their guns. it was insane. >> police used stop sticks and got the suspect to come to a stop. the driver was combative and ended up getting tased. they believe they was under the influence of drugs. last week at 5 we showed you the picture of a pennsylvania police officers with a german

shepherd slung over his shoulder. tonight we're hearing from that officer for the first time. this is the picture that captured more than hearts. more than 4,000 likes for the less officer. >> i wanted to do what i could to help. >> reporter: it's no suppress that this patrolman has a special place in his heart for man's best friend. he went the extra mile for maya, the german shepherd when the car she was riding in crashed. >> i own a german shepherd. i know how devastated i would feel. >> reporter: he said sunday he was on routine a trel when he overheard on his radio that pal mere rap and north will done police were looking for the dog. she spotted him and wouldn't come to her.

you can dress more summer like because the heat will be back on. not so much this evening. with the humidity, with the mid to low 70s, feels cool by mid-august standards. wind speeds are light from the south right now. not much wind to tell you b humidity will come up. so a muggier day on tap as we go into your tuesday. expect to feel that change, that, plus the increasing amount of sunshine and heat will make for a different feeling tuesday around here. that's for sure. we'll see some clouds. we'll stay rain free. it will not be a crystal clear blue day but more sun breaking through. here's the setup as we look at the region this evening across the mid-atlantic. skies have cleared back into west virginia, ohio, pennsylvania. we're under the mid-level cloud cover. you can see what action we have has been bottled up. it's down into virginia and north carolina. society up at the surface, it's improving.

we have a couple double areas of high pressure. it helps clear the skies and bring the sun back. it will mean so much hotter weather. the stationary boundary is close enough to bring the clouds. if you look at temperatures and roll forward in time. tomorrow warming up some. mid-80s for much of the baltimore area. 90 toward richmond. we'll crank the numbers up more as the heat builds into the day on wednesday. we're talking upper 80s and could touch 90 toward wednesday, thursday of this week. by the way the tropics are quiet, a cluster of thunderstorms off southwest florida. quiet, even as we push into the peak of the hurricane season late august into september. we should see more activity. tonight down to 64. skies clearing but patchy fog could impact late tonight and into your morning commute. give yourself a few extra

for that but a great night to flare up the meat on the grill. >> you said the wrong word, flareup. that's what we're watching. it's the race against the clock. firefighters worked day and night trying to save homes from wildfires that are blazing out of control. we have the latest on dozens of wildfires threatening homes of some of hollywood's biggest stars. >> reporter: the west is on fire. 35 uncontained wildfires are burning across nine states with one of the largest in idaho threatening homes in the resort town of sun valley where ski resorts are using snow making equipment for protection. >> it's been a shock. >> reporter: more than 160 square miles have burned. 2,000 homes remain under mandatory evacuation orders and thousands more are at risk, including those owned by clint

protect valuable homes. the mass shooting at sandy hook almost ri captured the attention of the whole country. here in maryland we're approaching the one shooting at perry high school. lots of companies are developing new technology to keep kids safe in the classroom, including bulletproof white boards. the university of maryland eastern shore announced their plans to buy 200 of them. >> reporter: these white boards would be distributed to our faculty as a tool that they clan use in their classrooms. >> the bullet prove boards will be in place by the start of the fall semester. a new i.d. system will provide a higher level of safety. basically, every visitor will go through an immediate background check and be give an

personalized i.d. badge that includes a photo. the school officials said the information collected will not be shared outside of the school system and is stored in a secure server. county police are taking the opportunity to remind families about school zone safety. police say they will have special patrols around the public schools for the first two weeks. to prevent speeding there are two new cameras being added. the school system will have one additional school zone come monday. that's being added near the new duckett lane elementary school in elk ridge. most kids have another week to enjoy their hummer vacation. the bell rang for them this morning. whenever kids head back to school, you want them to stay safe. last week a new study found the average
